It’s Only Murder if You’re Sane

The Gothamist reports that:

On Wednesday, police found the body of a nude woman in Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem. Although initial reports suggested the woman may have been emotionally disturbed, last night police announced that they were treating Nina Rivera’s death as a homicide.

So, it’s one or the other is it? I don’t know whether this little blurb is a statement on the Gothamist’s “journalism” or the NYPD’s approach. Either way, there’s a severe problem of perception here.

I can see what you mean here, but I initially thought they meant homicide as opposed to suicide.

NiNa Rivera was so special to everyone she came in contact with she had a heart of gold & she will be missed dearly. Death always comes as a surprise no one ever expects it but this one was a big shock. It takes an evil individual with no heart & soul to do what they did to our nina So i pray her family stays on top of the police so they can do there Job & find the Piece of shit who did this to her. She over came many obstacles in life she was a great Mom & friend Nina we miss u dearly mama We take comfort in knowing ur in a better place Wish ur life didnt have to end the way it did :(… Forever in our hearts u remain

Thanks for posting. Now is a good time to remember that behind every headline is a human being. I posted this because it bothered me that it came across as if it she was either emotionally disturbed or murdered — as if they’re either mutually exclusive or one cancels out the importance of the other. She was a person — someone’s friend, mother, child. Regardless of any lesser factors, she’s deserving of the truth. I hope you all find it.
